G4 Guitar Students 2020

Our students appeared alongside other G4 guitar students from around the world in this compilation video to showcase what they have been up to during lockdown. We are so pleased that so many of our students have been able to continue their learning online with us over the past few months and have been making great progress!  The video includes students of all ages and levels from other areas of the UK, the US and Australia. As we haven’t been able to run in-person lessons recently, it’s been great to connect with our community online and, in this video, see the progress being made by students at some of our sister schools. There are some great...

Virtual Recital Summer 2020

In June 2020, in place of our usual performance event, we put on a “virtual recital” for our students. Students of all ages & levels performed a variety of music including classics by Tom Petty, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, Oasis and Lynryrd Skynyrd and we all got together on a Zoom call to watch the show!  It was great to catch up with our students for a social event online and we are looking forward to seeing them in person as soon as it’s safe for us to do so. In the meantime, please enjoy highlights from the show – well done to everyone who performed!   https://youtu.be/_gbRQNVfpBU Our show also got a write-up...

Summer Showcase 2018

Check out some performances from our Summer Showcase 2018. This first bunch all took the plunge and played as part of a full band – accompanied by other students, teachers and a drummer and bass player! We encourage all our students, regardless of age or ability, to get involved in our twice-yearly performances. After all, there’s no better way to improve your playing, show off what you can do in front of your friends and family and, above all, HAVE FUN playing guitar! First up, here’s the closer from this event, the Guns N’Roses classic Sweet Child O’ Mine. Aaryan played lead guitar, Ky played rhythm and Sevgin sang. Great stuff! https://youtu.be/aPolMvCY1Rw Have a look at...

Cro Cro Land 2019

We were proud to sponsor Cro Cro Land, a brand new multi-stage South London indie music festival, presented by the Croydonist, which launched in the centre of Croydon on 6 April 2019 and two of our students got to perform on their Tram Stop stage! Jordan Rutland (aka Indie Strings) and Ciro Duran both performed short acoustic sets to the festival crowd – plus our own Mike’s band performed on the main stage. Headline acts included She Drew The Gun, Blood Red Shoes, The Lovely Eggs and She Drew the Gun. It was great to see our students performing alongside established acts and we all had a great day enjoying the music. Well done Jordan...

Kids Around The World Episode #2

Our student, Arjun, appeared in episode 2 of Kids Around The World, a YouTube TV show which showcases children from across the globe playing musical instruments during lockdown. The show supports creative kids and gives them a platform to perform and share their interest and talent with others, keeping them motivated to learn in this difficult time. Arjun appeared alongside children from various areas of the USA, Canada, South Africa and other parts of the UK. As we can’t run in-person jam sessions or performance events at the moment, an initiative like Kids Around the World is great as it enables our students to feel connected, not only with their fellow guitar students, but also...

How To Set Up Zoom For Online Guitar Lessons

We are currently holding all our online guitar lessons via the video conferencing app Zoom. In order to ensure your teacher can see and hear you properly, we recommend you become familiar with Zoom and make some changes to its default settings. The following post guides you through how to do this so that we can focus on helping you play guitar as quickly as possible… (Please note the advice below is primarily for computer/laptop users, although we have provided advice for those using a tablet or phone where appropriate). 1. DOWNLOAD ZOOM – IT’S FREE! Go to https://zoom.us/ and download the app.  You should do this whether you are using a computer, tablet or mobile phone.  2....

Why Learn With The G4 Guitar Method?

Like any new skill, learning to play guitar takes time. Despite what you may read elsewhere on the internet, there are no quick fixes – you have to put in the work!  Even if your goal is simply to be able to strum and sing a few songs, this usually takes several months to achieve, at a minimum. However, some approaches to learning guitar are more efficient than others. I often speak to people who have spent many years trying to teach themselves by doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that, or who have learnt with teachers who had no clear learning plan.  As a result, they’ve made very...

How To Buy Your First Guitar Online

As guitar teachers who specialise in teaching beginners and young children, we often get asked for advice on buying a good starter guitar. For many beginners (or parents of beginners), buying your first guitar can be a daunting prospect, especially when faced with a variety of different types, sizes and budgets. So I have put together some advice to help you cut through some of the noise and get one step closer to choosing a suitable first guitar for you or your child. 1. THINGS TO CONSIDER There are various things to consider when buying your first guitar: Budget & where to buy from? What type of guitar? What size? Right or left-handed? I will discuss each of these in turn...
